What is poker equity?

Equity is your share of the pot based on your probability of winning. If you hold a hand with 60% equity in a $100 pot, your mathematical expectation from that pot is $60. Every call, raise, and fold in Texas Hold'em often comes down to one question: is my equity higher than the price I'm paying?

This calculator runs 100,000 Monte Carlo simulations per calculation — the same method used in professional tools like PokerStove and Equilab. Each simulation deals a random board, evaluates every player's best five-card hand, and records the winner. The result: equity estimates accurate to within ±0.3%, for any pre-flop or post-flop scenario, with up to 10 players.

Pre-flop poker odds: matchups you need to know

These three categories cover a huge share of common pre-flop all-ins. Memorize the approximate odds, then use the calculator above to check specific combos.

Pair vs. two overcards
Q♥Q♦ vs A♠K♠
~54% vs ~46%

Often called a "coin flip," but the pair wins more than half the time. Suited overcards gain a few extra percent thanks to flush potential. The deeper the pair, the closer the matchup gets.

Overpair vs. Underpair
A♠A♥ vs K♦K♣
~82% vs ~18%

The lower pair needs to hit a set (about 1 in 8). AA vs KK is the most lopsided common matchup. Against a lower pocket pair, aces are a big favorite pre-flop.

Domination
A♠K♥ vs A♦Q♣
~74% vs ~26%

When both hands share one card, the better kicker dominates. The trailing hand has only 3 outs to pair its kicker. Domination spots are a common way players lose big pots.

Poker outs and odds chart

Outs are the remaining cards that complete your draw hand. Use this reference alongside the calculator to verify your math at the table.

Draw Outs Flop → River Turn → River
Gutshot straight416.5%8.7%
Two overcards624.1%13.0%
Open-ended straight831.5%17.4%
Flush draw935.0%19.6%
Flush + gutshot1245.0%26.1%
Flush + open-ender1554.1%32.6%

Quick shortcut (Rule of 2 and 4): multiply outs × 4 on the flop for flop-to-river odds, or × 2 on the turn for turn-to-river odds. This approximation is within 1–2% for up to 12 outs.

Essential poker odds concepts

Pot Odds

Pot odds are the ratio of the current pot to the cost of your call. A $100 pot with a $20 call gives you 5:1. Convert to a percentage: 1 ÷ (5+1) = 16.7%. If your equity exceeds 16.7%, calling is mathematically profitable long-term.

Implied Odds

Implied odds add the money you expect to win on later streets when you hit. A flush draw might not have direct pot odds to call, but if your opponent will pay off a big bet on the river, the implied return justifies it.

Expected Value (EV)

EV is the average profit or loss of a decision repeated over time. Calculate it: (equity × pot) − cost of your call. A positive result means the play is +EV. Long-term winners are simply players who find and take +EV spots more often than their opponents.

Fold Equity

Fold equity is the additional value you gain when an opponent folds to your bet. Semi-bluffing with a draw combines your hand equity (chance of making the best hand) with fold equity (chance they give up) — often making marginal hands profitable to bet.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is this poker odds calculator?

Results are accurate to within ±0.3%. The calculator deals 100,000 random boards per run, evaluates the best hand for each player, and tallies wins and ties. Because each simulation is independent, doubling the sample size cuts the margin of error roughly in half — 100K strikes the best balance between speed and precision.

What does equity mean in poker?

Equity is the percentage of the time you expect to win (or tie for a share of) the pot. It shifts on every street: pocket aces are a huge favorite heads-up pre-flop, but equity can swing hard after the flop — for example, when your opponent flops a set. Tracking equity across streets is what separates breakeven players from winning ones.

How do I calculate poker odds at the table?

Count your outs, then compare your drawing odds to the pot odds you're being offered. If the pot is $80 and the call is $20, you need at least 20% equity to break even. A flush draw with 9 outs has about 35% equity on the flop — well above the 20% threshold, so calling is profitable. See the outs chart above for common draw percentages.

Can I use this on mobile?

Yes. The calculator is fully responsive and works on any device — phone, tablet, or desktop. The card picker is touch-friendly, and all calculations run locally in your browser with no server round-trips, so results appear instantly even on slower connections.

How many players can I simulate at once?

You can calculate equity for 2 to 10 players simultaneously — every table size from heads-up to a full ring. Click the "+" button to add players. Each player needs both hole cards dealt before calculation. Players with empty card slots are excluded from the simulation automatically.
