It’s no secret that one of the main skills of professional poker players is game selection (targeting phish).
Hand2Note allows you to calculate the percentage of play at tables with a fish, as well as analyze the game at these tables.

Calculating the percentage of play at tables with fishes
In order to determine what your game selection percentage is you need to:
- Find the number of all hands played;
- Find the number of hands played at tables with a chip;
- Calculate the game selection percentage using the formula: number of hands played at tables with a fish / number of all hands played * 100.
In order to calculate the percentage of play at tables with fish in Hand2Note, do following:
- In the main Hand2Note window, open the “Reports” tab (1), find the “Number of hands” stat (2), this is the number of all hands played (33000 in our case), memorize or write it down;
- Then click on the “Filter” button (3), in the opened filter window, go to the “General” tab (4);
- In the “Fish Count” line (5), state the desired number of fish players at the table (for example, set “1+”);
- In the “Max Fish Vpip” line (6) specify with which VPIP fish you are interested in (for example, set “50+”), then click “APPLY” (7) to add the filter;
- After applying the filter, memorize or write down the “Hands” (8) value – this is the number of hands played at the tables with fish (19000 in our case);
- Calculate according to the formula: number of hands played at tables with a fish / number of hands played * 100 (19000 / 33000 * 100 = 57.5%).

It is believed that the minimum percentage of play at tables with fish, using table selection should be:
- When playing in poker rooms with semi-anonymous lobby (RedStar, Chico, WPN and others) – from 65% and more;
- When playing in poker rooms with an open lobby (888Poker, PokerStars, PPPoker, PokerBROS, CoinPoker and others) – from 80% and more.
In the example, the game takes place in the RedStar poker room with a semi-anonymous lobby and the percentage of selection is 57.5%.
Thus, the player being evaluated, must raise the percentage of play at tables with fish to the required percentage in rooms with semi-anonymous lobbies, more specifically above 65%.
Analyzing game at tables with fish
After applying the filter, you can not only calculate the percentage of selection, but you can also evaluate many stats when playing against fish, such as:
- “VPIP” and “PFR” (1);
- “Win rate bb/100” (2);
- “3Bet”, “WTSD”, “W%SD”, “WWSF%” (3);
- By opening the “Positions” tab (4), pay attention to the “Win rate bb/100” column (5) – you will see your win rate bb/100 values for different positions.

If we look at the example, we see a pretty tight game – VPIP is 19 and PFR is 17. The player should increase his VPIP and PFR values when playing against fish.
The win rate bb/100 is low but acceptable. It should be 13 bb/100 or more, as estimated by leading Holdem coaches.
The remaining parameters in the example are too variable and changeable in estimation due to the low number of hands at tables with a fish.
