Stat Sample in Hand2Note

Each stat in Hand2Note should be evaluated not only by its value but also by its sample.

Sample is the number of situations in which a player could perform an action that is represented by the stat itself. Sample size affects the credibility of the statistic.

For example, two different players have the same 3-bet values. At the same time, one of them had the opportunity to 3-bet more than a hundred times, and the other only fifteen. Accordingly, the statistics of the player who could 3-bet more than a hundred times is more reliable.

In this article, we will discuss how to assess the reliability of statistics based on sample size. We will also tell you how Hand2Note can help in this.

How statistics indicators are formed, as well as, its importance in analysis

The value of each simple stat in Hand2Note is formed by the formula:

Value = Cases / Opportunities * 100

Where:

  • Value is the percentage frequency with which the player performed the action represented by the stat;
  • Cases is the number of situations where the player performed the action represented by the stat;
  • Opportunities is the number of situations when a player could perform the action in the stat. Opportunities is a sample of the stat.

Example of forming the value of a 3-bet

Let’s assume that during the whole time of collecting statistics on a player, opponents made an Open Raise against him 163 times. Accordingly, the player could make a 3-bet against them 163 times – this is the selection on the 3-bet stat, or opportunities on the 3-bet stat. At the same time, the player made a 3-bet only 15 times – this is the cases on the 3-bet stat.

To calculate the value of the 3Bet stat, let’s apply the formula:

Value = Cases / Opportunities * 100

That is:

15 / 163 * 100 = 9%

The value of the 3-bet in the example is 9%.

Importance of sample size for analysis

Sample size is of extreme importance when evaluating statistics on a player. In fact, from the point of view of statistics as a science – the larger the sample, the more reliable the value.

There are many opinions in poker regarding the minimum value of sample size needed to trust the stats. The most frequent of them are:

  • Many poker stables whose players play on mobile poker apps – advise to start trusting statistics when sample is 10 or more;
  • Old school poker players who play at sites like PokerStars or 888Poker are convinced that – statistics can be trusted at a sample level of 20 or more.

How to customize the display of sample in popups and HUDs in Hand2Note

In Hand2Note you can customize the display of the sample – next to the value of the stat itself.

On the left – without the sample; on the right – with the sample.

To open the sample setup menu, click on “Configuration” (1), then go to “Stat Appearance” (2).

The “Sample size” (3) menu allows you to apply the following customization:

  • “Show stat sample in HUD” (4) allows you to enable the display of the sample;
  • “Sample font size” (5) allows you to customize the size of the sample font;
  • “Sample font color” (6) allows you to select the color of the sample font;
  • “Show stat sample when it’s less than” (7) allows you to specify at what minimum value of Opportunities on stat, sample will be displayed;
  • “Make stat transparent if its sample is lower than” (8) allows to set stat transparency if its sample is lower than specified in this item;
  • “Stat opacity in case of small sample” (9) allows you to specify the level of transparency, when using ‘Make stat transparent if its sample is lower than’;
  • “Show stat sample in parenthesis” (10) allows you to indicate the sample in parenthesis.
